Finding independent legal counsel
Information about how clients can seek independent licensed legal counsel when their needs extend beyond document preparation.
When you may need an attorney
- You need advice about your rights, your options, or which course of action to take
- Someone has sued you, or you are considering suing someone
- A deadline, hearing, or court appearance is involved
- You need someone to negotiate or appear for you
- You are not sure which documents are appropriate for your situation
Independent sources for licensed attorneys in California
The State Bar of California
The State Bar maintains a public attorney search where you can confirm that an attorney is licensed and in good standing, and it certifies lawyer referral services throughout the state.
County bar associations
Most California county bar associations operate lawyer referral services that match you with an attorney by practice area, often with a reduced-cost initial consultation.
Legal aid and self-help centers
Legal aid organizations and the self-help centers at California superior courts assist people who qualify, and can point you to the right resources for your situation.
How Zelix Services fits in
- We prepare eligible documents at your direction, with our in-house paralegals supervised by a licensed attorney
- We can organize and format what your own attorney asks you to assemble
- If your matter is escalated beyond document preparation, we may contract with a local licensed attorney to handle it, and we tell you in writing before that happens
- You are always free to choose your own attorney
Zelix Services is not a law firm. Using this website or submitting a request does not create an attorney-client relationship with Zelix Services. Any engagement of an attorney is a separate written agreement between you and that attorney. See our Disclosures.
